Internships

ENV3202A will be assessed on a CS/CU basis. 

The assessment components are:  

• General work attitude and performance (55%) 
  • Mid-internship feedback (20%)
  • Final feedback (35%)
• Fortnightly reflective journal (45%)  
  • First 4-5 entries (30%): 250 words
  • Final entry (15%): 500 words
  • Feedback will be given for the first and final entries

Internships should be approved by the course coordinators before they can be used for ENV3202A. Since this is an environmental studies internship course, it should have a sufficient emphasis on environment and sustainability work. Please see below for further instructions:

  • Interested applicants should apply directly to the organisation or via TalentConnect. 

• Self-sourced internships. 

• • To ensure that your self-sourced internship can be used for the course, please submit the job description to dunyagurses@nus.edu.sg for approval before applying for the position.  
  • Department regulation requires the secured internship to provide a minimum of $800/month as stipend for the student. If you wish to use an internship that offers less than $800/month as stipend, please write in to dunyagurses@nus.edu.sg for approval. 

A:The course can be taken once, either in your Y2 or Y3 summer. However, we encourage you to take on other internship/ volunteer/ learning opportunities in other summers as well.

A: Yes. So long as you fulfill the full 12-week full-time duration of the internship (or, if you are taking ENV3102 in the same semester, the full 10-week duration). We have had students take breaks during their internship period to fulfill other commitments. They negotiated for time off work and made up for the time by starting their internship earlier or ending it later. These discussions should be done with your employer before you start work. 

A: Please write to us and we will provide a support letter for you to use to apply for a deferment. If deferment is not possible, please notify your employer ASAP and request for an extension of your internship period to ensure that you will fulfill the internship duration requirement for the course. 

A: Full commitment to ENV3102 is expected for the overseas component (including preparation), until the final presentation. Upon the final presentation, you are given another 2 weeks to complete the remaining course assignments. The dates for the 10-week internship duration for ENV3202A will start immediately after the final presentation, such that you can complete it in time before the start of the new semester. In other words, you will start your internship almost immediately upon your return to Singapore and you will also be working on your ENV3102 assignments during the first 2 weeks of your internship. Thus, please note that the workload in these 2 weeks can be rather high. This is coupled with the physical exhaustion from ENV3102, and energy spent to get accustomed to your new workplace. We would advise you to plan your time carefully during this period.
