Mindfulness Workshops – November 2020
Covid-19 has led to many restrictions being put in place. Students have been impacted by this due to the different mode of learning which is mostly online and with limited face-to-face interaction with lecturers and peers. This coupled with the upcoming examinations, serve as a stressful and anxious period for all. To relief some of this stress and to provide an opportunity to take a breather, the BES Programme Office has for the first time organised a two-part online mindfulness workshop called Connection in a disconnected world.
The workshops took place on 11th and 18th November 2020, just before the start of the exam weeks.
Workshop 1 was titled Cultivate concentration and release stress and tensions from the body and Workshop 2 was titled Calm in the storm – Embrace and transforming strong emotions. The workshops were conducted by Ms Ho Gia Anh Le, who is the founder of NUS Mindfulness Interest Group – a group of faculty and students interested in the practice, teaching and research on mindfulness. She is currently a mindfulness consultant and trainer for Yale NUS College, teaching courses on the Psychology of Mindfulness, A Mindful Journey to Happiness, Contemplative Education, Mindfulness for Research and Reflections, Face Covid with Mindfulness & Compassion, for students, faculty and staff of the Yale NUS College Community. She is also the Founder and Director of Le Hoang Pte. Ltd which is a Singapore-registered company specialized in mindfulness training, education development and investment.
Through the workshops, the students learnt mindfulness and breathing techniques which helped them to be more in tune with their body and helped them to focus better. The workshop provided an opportunity for the students to relax and destress. We hope to organise more of such workshops in the future so that more students can benefit from them.
We would like to send all students our best wishes for the upcoming examinations!
