Programme

BES strives to develop environmental leaders and advocates: agents of change who are scientifically informed and capable of generating solutions for a sustainable future.

Overview:

The NUS Bachelor of Environmental Studies (BES) Programme launched in July 2011, is designed to build a strong, cross-disciplinary knowledge foundation through the joint efforts of the Faculty of Science and Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, with participation from the Faculty of Law, College of Design and Engineering, NUS Business School and the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health. The range of knowledge and transferable skills acquired during the programme will allow our students with an aptitude and passion for environmental issues to translate their enthusiasm into meaningful actions.

The programme is designed with defining elements to build a strong, cross-disciplinary foundation of knowledge. These include:

  • Internships, both domestic and overseas, with environmental organisations from diverse sectors.
  • Semester-abroad exchange programmes with partner universities.
  • Exclusive, BES-only town-hall style discussions with local and regional leaders offering a behind-the-scenes perspective on contemporary environmental problems and solutions.
  • Small average class size to create optimal interactive space with lecturers.
